Welcome to SCYHA Pee Wee A page

Welcome to the spot on the web for the St. Cloud Youth Hockey Pee Wee A 2009-2010 team.

What really is the end game? Is it the individual win, or the great friendships and relationships you have along the way??

Think of your future not your past. You have the power to change what you do next,
Not what you did 30 seconds ago.....

D-10 Gm Vs Champlin Park

Well,
our last district game was a decent showing by the whole team. Other than a few times we were bottled up in our zone, our guys really seemed to control the play. With nice pass feeds and goals from Omann and two from Moran. We let the Rebels get an earlier goal on us and we came back with three unanswered goals! Nice work guys. Although we won't make the play-offs this year, I know the coaches, parents and all the team mates are very proud of the way you all have improved!!! Let's take the Iron Range this weekend!!!

Fun Day on the Lake

Well,
We got several of the kids out on the ice on Sunday the 7th of February. I wanted to do something a little different. Knowing how much I love fishing ion general it was a not a far reach to suggest ice fishing near St. Johns! While the catching was not as good as it could have been. Although we perforated the ice enough to almost call it Swiss cheese, we really did not find any numbers of fish until later in the afternoon. Some had their first opportunity to see how it was done, others just seemed to like messing around with guys on the team.

One of the reasons I feel so strongly about having the kids do something outside of the game... Mark Messier's 2007 Hockey Hall of Fame induction speech he stated "It's not about becoming a professional athlete, it's about the journey and the people you meet along the way" Personally, I can't agree more. Hopefully we all realize how much these guys are really like a family unit. There are many memories from this season up to this point, so many of them are not even related to hockey. I am proud to have the opportunity to work with all of these guys.

D-10 Gm Vs Centennial

Well, we tried pretty hard, but not enough to beat a decent team like Centennial.. Neu with the nice effort goal, Fritzy facing 26 shots. Early penalties cost us on this one, unfortunately... Loss 4-1. Kind of a tough break for play-off positions with this loss. Still a fairly good game by our PW A's.

D-10 Gm vs CINB

Finally, a convincing and dominant win. With five goals, our guys pretty much took it to CINB, although, not outshooting them. Gerdes getting the third shutout of his peewee career. Goals by Baker, Bissett, Traut, Altena and Omann. Way to work guys!

D10 Gm vs Spring Lake Park

Now I know our guys are clicking a bit more than last week. With 20 shots to their 12 it was not a high stakes shoot em out game, but our guys played hard and solidly most of the game and Fritzy was rewarded with a shut out! 3-0! Nice way to work.. Got to love it when our Defense scores... Nice read Bakes! Let's carry this energy forward guys!!!

District 10 Gm Vs Coon Rapids

Well, there are those days that even when you work hard and our guys really did work hard in this game; that you run into a hot goalie. And we did. Our guys out-shot Coon Rapids 26-18 and still lost 2-0! However, I would much rather lose a game like that than not be working at all and lose. Nice work boys in spite of the score.

District 10 Gm Vs St. Francis

Our guys came out sluggish and ended off sluggish.. With glimmers of what they can do We more or less deserved the loss, from a coaches perspective. 2-1. In spite of playing not up to snuff overall, some of our passing was still healthy... We can do better than that guys... And we all know it...

CIC weekend 1--16-17-2010

To say it was not our weekend to shine, would be one way of putting it I guess. Our guys really worked hard and generally passed well. A few key mistakes and the opponents made the most of them. A good learning experience weekend for sure. Our guys actually stayed with the other teams as far as shots and possession time are concerned, but, the number that mattered this weekend for the tournament was the W/L column. Losing 5-3 to STMA, 6-3 to Minneapolis Park, 3-2 to Eagan and a rematch against Grand Forks for a 5-2 loss, made for a tough weekend for sure. We have the opportunity to rebound and rebound BIG! Some key district games and a scrimmage weekend lie ahead for the remainder of the season. NEVER GIVE UP! Let's keep up the hard work guys!

D10 Gm Vs Elk River

Well, we knew we were up against a tough team with 3rd ranked Elk River. Our guys worked hard and Fritzy did a great job in net. I think we could challenge these guys if we get the opportunity in districts. A hard working game by our guys. We have several opportunities to put the puck in the net but, could not make it happen that night. 4-0 loss. A few too many penalties as well... We're learning...

D10 Gm vs Rogers

Our boys came out OK and played well for 3/4 of this one. The passed and gained the offensive zone. Gerdes Kept us in the game and then came the last few minutes of this penalty filled game. We lost a 2-1 lead and gave them a couple goals to get their win 3-2. There are times I wish we could "have one back" This was one of those.... Oh well. Keep plugging and skating hard guys!

Kids against hunger Team event Jan 4th

This was more about giving back. Our guys met at the Kids against Hunger warehouse and packaged several thousand meals that were going to folks in Uruguay. Pretty cool to see the team work together in another venue. I heard many positive comments about the time spent over there and some wanted to do this type of event again. Thanks to Marion for coordinating this event!

PBIHT highlights

SCYHA PW-A's had a chance to shine in this tournament, we played well in 14 out of 16 periods of hockey. Unfortunately, our two bad periods cost us. Still the tournament was a fun experience and one worth many memories. One of the highlights was the team cheering on Omann, Bissett and Fritzy in the skills competition. What a deal. Omann was certainly fast, but managed to get beat out in the head to head deal... tough break. Bissett had a slow start in the shoot out competition, but fisnished really strong.... So strong that he had to face his own goalie in the final round of competition. Fritzy stoned many a player that tried to sneak a puck past him... HE was the runner up to the top goalie... Bissett had to face Fritzy in the final round for his step up to the tournament shootout champ! Nice work by all and certainly a great showing by St. Cloud!

Another little highlight was our brother gift exchange and pizza party at the hotel. Pretty cool to see they guys interacting like that.. Parents seemed to like the setting as well...
So overall a great weekend of hockey in Burrrrrrmidji! Oh and BTW it was 39° below zero on Jan 2nd!!!! Yikes!

BLUE-OX Championship Game Vs Hastings

Obviously a well matched pair of teams. We had almost identical shots saves and goals after two periods we were tied 2-2. Our guys came out hitting more and had some impressive defensive zone play. Still knotted up at the end of the third period, we needed an extra session to figure this one out... 6:20 into the 8 minute OT our guys picked up a rebound for the game winner 3-2 win for the championship! Nice way to finish out the PBIHT for the year.

PBIHT Gm 4 Vs Armstrong-Cooper

This play in game was more how we play, with several nice goals and the 4-1 win. Nice job guys! Dominating performance for sure.

PBIHT Gm 3 Vs Cloquet

What comes easy seems to also go away just as easy. Up four goals to one by the end of the first period our guys came out strong. Obviously we need to work on that mental toughness aspect of our game. Cloquet routed us for a 6-4 win on their part.

PBIHT Gm2 Vs LOW

This was a better showing from our Huskies offensively and yet our defensive coverage was lacking somewhat. Unreal for points on the board with a 10-4 final score.

PBIHT Gm 1 Vs Grand Forks

Wow! Started out with a 2-0 lead and ended up in one heck of a shoot out for a 6-5 loss. Obviously Grand Forks wanted it just a little more than us in that game. The guys came so close to a comeback it was impressive. Looking for more urgency like that the entire game.

Pee Wee A Calendar

And for some fun....

From 2008-2009 Season - PBIHT Gm 5 Vs Cloquet,The Big Bunyan Win!!!

Well the boys of STC PeeWee A pulled it off!! A huge win over Cloquet 3-1. With a relatively tight game going into the third period, feeds from Pogo left Bates with no choice but to finish off the the 11th ranked Cloquet team... An Earlier goal by Golebiowski had gotten the team knotted up at 1-1. We once again out-shot our opponent 34-17.

Way to finish the tourney off boys with the big Championship win...
Photos and video to come soon!!
In the meantime you can check out the results on the
http://paulbunyanhockey.com/brackets.html website....

PBIHT Gm 4 vs Armstrong

Armstrong came out a bit stronger than we expected at first.... It took a little bit for our boys to get rolling... But, key saves from Fritzy in net helped our cause as Skaja managed a hat trick, Pogo with two goals, Hall and Maetche both with singles put us on top by a 7-3 score... Again good play and strong offense helped our boys roll in to the championship round against Cloquet!

Nice work boys!!!

PBIHT Gm 3 Vs Virginia

Again playing incredibly dominant by outshooting the Blue Devils 41-14 and outscoring them 7-1, we had them right where they needed to be..... With a hat trick from Pogo, two goals from Bates, and one each from Hall and Levig, again there was no doubt our boys were championship round bound.... Great hard work boys!!

PBIHT Gm 2 Vs Crookston

Another fine showing by the boys of STC! Outshooting Crookston 38-10 and out scoring them 8-1. With multiple goals from Golebiowski and Bates and singles from Pogo, Hall, Levig and Skaja, our boys left no chance of giving in oj the road to the championship. Nice work boys!

PBIHT Gm 1 Vs St. Vital

Well the boys faced an incredibly aggressive Winnepeg goal tender. We out shot the vics 45-14 and came up with a 2-2 tie. A great heart pounding game for sure! Goals by Hall and welcome back Bates!
Let's keep rollin and dominating boys! Great work!
