Welcome to SCYHA Pee Wee A page

Welcome to the spot on the web for the St. Cloud Youth Hockey Pee Wee A 2009-2010 team.

What really is the end game? Is it the individual win, or the great friendships and relationships you have along the way??

Think of your future not your past. You have the power to change what you do next,
Not what you did 30 seconds ago.....

D-10 gm vs Chisago Lakes

The boys looked oretty good overall. Outshooting the wildcats 40-11. Unfortunately, their goalie was up to he task and managed to stop all but one of our shots. A few penalties and we ended up tieing again! 1-1. None the less, our guys met their goals in hits, passing, shots and keeping their shots under 12 for the game! I can't complain about the effort or execution. We just need to be able to finish... Good opportunities to learn up in Bemidji this weekend. Let's keep up the good work guys!!!

D-10 Gm Vs Princeton

Now THAT, was a game!!! That was exactly what we coach for! That showed us how these guys can function effectively. Our guys moved the puck well, hustled, played body and were determined to make it happen, focussed! Out shooting Princeton 36-13 and out scoring them 5-0. Gerdes with his second shut out on the season and goals by Altena, Jesse Mendel, Cornelius, Neu, Torgerson.
That is St. Cloud Pee Wee A Hockey!! Awesome job guys!!!!

D-10 Gm Vs Champlin Park

Well our guys came out a little flat, but they picked it up in the second period. Gerdes had an outstanding game in net. A game riddled with penalties made it difficult for our guys to get in sync. All in all a good game and a show of hard work and determination. A decent tie again! 1-1. I know we can do better, but the boys keep proving to us they are not willing to lose, this is a good thing. Keep up the work ethic guys! We'll make it pay off.

D-10 gm Vs Anoka

Man, another tight game for the PeeWee A's. 2-2 tie! After an early Anoka goal our guys battled and looked good on the forecheck. Fritzy with another great game keeping us in it in spite of our five penalties. Joey Mendel stepping it up for not one, both goals today. All in all, another show of perseverance and hard work. Let's keep building on it guys!

D-10 game vs Spring Lake Park

We came out slow in the 1st, but managed to come back very strong in the 2nd and 3rd. A 3-3 tie. We lived by our adopted Mantra of "hard work". A coach or fan could not complain about the overall work ethic from this skilled Husky team. With goals from Bissett, Cornelius and a nice laser from the point by Breidenbach, our guys kept on a nice positive roll. Great work guys!

Championship game vs Champlin Park

Well, our boys couldn't muster up the game they had yesterday against CINB. The game ended 2-1. Our one tally was a PK goal by Lucia with a nice feed from Moran. They managed to out shoot us and Fritzy kept us in the game for sure. Second place is not the end of the world for our first tournament. More to come from this great Husky team. That I am confident of! Nice job boys!!

Super Rink game 2 vs CINB

WOW! What a game! The Huskies came out pretty well, we passed and controlled the game pretty well getting three goals from Logan Neu and one from Joey Mendel. One of Neus goals was the game winner with 7 seconds remaining! As a coach I really enjoyed the boys passing as well as they did. We jumped out to a three goal lead and let CINB back in the game in the third period. Our boys showed incredible toughness and heart. Way to Go guys!

Game 1 Super rink tourney vs St. James Canadiens

The boys came out a little stronger in this game against the canucks. With a decent goal by Lucia, a nice dish pass from Torgerson to Moran for the second and a rebouund pick up by Bissett, we were able to bury the Canadiens 3-1! In spite of being called for seven penalties the boys even over came a 5 on 3 late to get the win. A few more shots and some better passing would be good to see, but, all in all, a good game. Way to go guys!

Getting back on track!

The boys more or less came ready to play St Francis on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Our guys came out stronger with hitting and shooting. We challenged the boys the hit three times each and get 30 shots on goal. They came close in both categories! With the power play goal and even strength goals by Neu and another even strength goal by Altena, the boys rolled over St Francis 3-0. Nice work boys! Let's carry that momentum into the super rink tourney!

Nov 21-22 nd recap

Our guys made some vast improvements after the Andover game. Penalties hurt us on Saturday against Rogers, but they boys looked much better defensively. A loss at 2-0 Rogers. Getting better for sure.

The game in Blaine against perennial power house Blaine Bengals was a great game none the less. We just about did not get our fair play points with the penalties, but still managed to put a couple points on the board, thanks to a sweet shorty by Lucia and a nice wrister by Moran. Blaine did not give up and we were not able to seal off the win with 14 seconds remaining and let th Bengals tie it up. Still a great game! At this pace of improvement, I think we have the chance to go a long way. Let's keep up the good work boys!!

Game 1 vs Andover

Well, a rough start. We learned a bit about how some bad habits can affect the whole team. Andover started strong we came back and tied it up. Shortly there after, we decided to play our own game and let Andover get numerous shots from the point. Loss 8-2. Think about your future boys! and the commitment you made to our team.

STMA Scrimmage

Well, we can't go undefeated all season, right? :D The SCYHA Pee Wee A's played a great game against a tough STMA group. We were with them and in significant portions of the game we handled them well. We were tied with just about a minute left after some nice work and goals by Jesse Mendel, Altena and Moran. We let a big kid skate through us and neglected to take the body enough... A questionable goal caused us to lose the game 5-4. Either way, I am very proud of our guys. Missing three players for various reasons, and Torgsey taking a really hard hit, put us down from the get go. We still played well overall... We have some work to do, but I feel good about our squad!

Another couple of success stories!

Well the guys came out ready to play on Sunday morning Nov 1st. We ended up with a 9-1 rout over Wadena which filled in for a team that had to back out. The guys looked good, passing and working the puck to get more than 58 shots on net.

The DL game was a little different story. Our boys had spent the afternoon at Zorbas in DL and seemed to come out a little sluggish. A broken blade on Lucias skate probably did not help team chemistry for the game. Overall, not bad with a 4-4 tie. We learned some valuable lessons on defensive zone coverage, back-checking and even got the opportunity to kill off a few penalties. Great way to cap off a scrimmage weekend. Nice job guys! Let's keep rolling forward!

Brainerd Scrimmage a success!

The boys came out a little slow to start but, man what a great test for them. Brainerd played pretty well and had a competitive squad. Our guys put the puck past each of their goalies 3 times and they managed 3 on us. We know we have some work to do defensively in our zone, but, definetely a great start! 6-3 win!

Lookng good!

The guys are doing well and picking up the pace of passing, break-out and regroups... We'll keep addressing skating and passing throughout the season.  Read your positional concepts! We need to cover all of what I handed out... to your parents... Just in case you don't have it handy, I have made it available on the right hand bar in "Links".

A big scrimmage weekend to test our competence.... Let's keep rolling guys!

What is Hustle in Hockey

Great concept submitted from Kris Moran.  READ!

Almost from the moment girls and boys lace their first pair of skates, someone is urging them to hustle. Their fathers, mothers, brothers, teammates, and coaches are telling them to "HUSTLE"! They soon discover that hustle is an attitude. It can be described in many ways. In a phrase, it is "being there first." It is maximum effort joyfully expressed. HUSTLE is a driving, vigorous desire to succeed, and that motivation is visible. It is skating like a person on fire and enjoying every eye-watering second of it! Hustle wears many faces. Whoops, hollers, scowls and laughter are all aspects of what motivates hustle. But determination is at the bottom of it all.
Hustle is also concentration, singleness of purpose. Hustle eliminates pain and enhances courage. You give a little more than you, or the coach, or your opponent thought you had. It is stops and starts until your lungs jam your rib cage and your breath turns to steam. Hustle is changing shifts on the fly, and heading right for the goal. Hustle is not talk; it is action. Hustle is doing one thing while thinking about the next move and the one after that. It is knowing where your teammate will be and sending the puck to him/her right on the money.
When you hustle, you'll know it. Players respect you, coaches use you as examples and kids wait for your smile after the game. You'll feel your teammate's sweaty glove on the back of your neck, and you'll see the crowd jumping in the air. The lights on the scoreboard change and there is a feeling inside that is all your own.
You see, hustle is not just a word. It's character, personality and habit all rolled into a way of life. It's just the thing that makes hockey worth every fleeting minute of the effort.

WOW! That says a lot! Thanks Kris for the great thought of HUSTLE.

Pee Wee A Calendar

And for some fun....

From 2008-2009 Season - PBIHT Gm 5 Vs Cloquet,The Big Bunyan Win!!!

Well the boys of STC PeeWee A pulled it off!! A huge win over Cloquet 3-1. With a relatively tight game going into the third period, feeds from Pogo left Bates with no choice but to finish off the the 11th ranked Cloquet team... An Earlier goal by Golebiowski had gotten the team knotted up at 1-1. We once again out-shot our opponent 34-17.

Way to finish the tourney off boys with the big Championship win...
Photos and video to come soon!!
In the meantime you can check out the results on the
http://paulbunyanhockey.com/brackets.html website....

PBIHT Gm 4 vs Armstrong

Armstrong came out a bit stronger than we expected at first.... It took a little bit for our boys to get rolling... But, key saves from Fritzy in net helped our cause as Skaja managed a hat trick, Pogo with two goals, Hall and Maetche both with singles put us on top by a 7-3 score... Again good play and strong offense helped our boys roll in to the championship round against Cloquet!

Nice work boys!!!

PBIHT Gm 3 Vs Virginia

Again playing incredibly dominant by outshooting the Blue Devils 41-14 and outscoring them 7-1, we had them right where they needed to be..... With a hat trick from Pogo, two goals from Bates, and one each from Hall and Levig, again there was no doubt our boys were championship round bound.... Great hard work boys!!

PBIHT Gm 2 Vs Crookston

Another fine showing by the boys of STC! Outshooting Crookston 38-10 and out scoring them 8-1. With multiple goals from Golebiowski and Bates and singles from Pogo, Hall, Levig and Skaja, our boys left no chance of giving in oj the road to the championship. Nice work boys!

PBIHT Gm 1 Vs St. Vital

Well the boys faced an incredibly aggressive Winnepeg goal tender. We out shot the vics 45-14 and came up with a 2-2 tie. A great heart pounding game for sure! Goals by Hall and welcome back Bates!
Let's keep rollin and dominating boys! Great work!
